Nestled at the base of the foothills of Altadena, Skylane and Canon classrooms serve children ages 2.9 - 4.5 years old and are a magical oasis for young children. Our classrooms are all outdoors, and children daily experience our nature-based play yard and regenerative farm. Our Waldorf early childhood curriculum supports healthy sensory integration, and healthy development in all of the developmental domains including social, emotional, movement, and cognitive development. Our curriculum and community building with the children are strongly influenced by the seasons and intimate relationship with the earth, including our seasonal festival community gatherings. Our all outdoor classrooms are all-weather which simultaneously offers unique experiences for nature immersion, yet are also designed for comfort, protection, and homelike coziness.

Our Curriculum

Our nature and play-based curriculum builds on the innate way that young children learn: through play and social connection. Our outdoor campuses offers an ideal setting for children to learn about themselves and the world through exploring nature, running, climbing, digging, feeding the farm animals, and reflective activities that encourage creativity, handwork, and connection. We teach through imaginative stories, music, and expressive movement.

Wholesome Food

The Healthy Food Programs provides children with three feshly cooked, mostly organic meals. A light morning meal is prepared by the teachers and the children in the class. Much of the produce comes directly from our regenerative farm. The children visit the farm regularly and are encouraged to garden, tend, and help harvest the produce, building their love for the earth and connection to how food is grown.

Daily Rhythm

Each day follows a recognizable rhythm which supports the children’s feeling of security so they can focus on their work of growth. The daily rhythm includes a balance of expansive times for physical activity and unstructured play, alternating with quiet moments, and structured activities that align with a natural ebb and flow of energy throughout the day.

Teacher Student Ratio

Our classrooms have 2 teachers for up to 14 children. This small class size helps us to give each child dedicated attention and developmental support.
